Changes to wage supplements and various pay benefits from 1 June 2023

Zmena v príplatkoch a rôznych mzdových zvýhodneniach od 1.6. 2023

After more than 2 years, the amounts of wage supplements are changing. The fixed supplement amount will change to a percentage of the hourly minimum wage. So from 1 June 2023, supplements will once again be linked to the hourly minimum wage as a percentage.

This is also how supplements were calculated until 2020, but the government of the time “froze” them and they stayed unchanged for two years. Thanks to this amendment, a large number of employees will be better off, but for employers it means higher wage costs and a higher contribution burden.

Overview of supplements from 1 June 2023:

If the nature of the work or the operating conditions require work to be performed regularly on Saturdays, Sundays or at night, a reduced rate can be agreed. Note that a reduced supplement rate is not possible for the night work supplement in a hazardous occupation. This option can only be applied in a collective agreement or, in the case of an employer that has no trade union and had fewer than 20 employees as at 31 December of the previous calendar year, in the employment contract.

It should also be noted that the employment contract with a managerial employee may set the wage taking into account any work on Saturdays, Sundays or at night. If such an agreement is made, the managerial employee will not be entitled to the wage supplements for weekend or night work mentioned above.
